Profile: Mary and Martha
Now, let’s do a profile on Mary and Martha’s life.
Let’s look at the LOGOS “divine reason or word of God.”
Mary and Martha Story:
The Bible Story of Mary and Martha comes from Chapter 10 of the Gospel of Luke. Mary and Martha, who are sisters, open their home to Jesus as he travels with his disciples. As Martha hurries to ensure the preparations, Mary simply sits at the feet of Jesus and listens to the wisdom of Christ.
What did we learn from these Bible characters?
Martha learns that very important ‘one thing’ that Jesus wants for all of us. Jesus teaches Martha that the most important thing in life is to seek His presence. We need to have a close and intimate relationship with Him. When we get that ‘one thing’ right, then everything else will fall into place.
Here comes the RHEMA WORDS “spoken word of God.”
Let’s begin with the love language.
They are:
Words of affirmation.
Quality time.
Physical touch.
Acts of service.
Receiving gifts.
We see here that both ladies, Mary and Martha, did their best to love Jesus in their own way.
Martha showed her love for Jesus by doing acts of service. She wanted to break out the China, so to speak.
A China set is a set of high-quality dishes made from clay, kaolin, feldspar, and quartz. The term “China” is used to describe expensive and fancy dishes because of the historical and cultural significance of Chinese porcelain.
Everything had to be perfect and well-prepared. After all, Jesus was stopping by. The Man of God was dropping by my🏠🙌house. “How often does the man of God, or Jesus, drop by your house,” says Martha. “I had to have things ready for Him,” says Martha.
Martha’s story reminded me of The Shunammite woman who “built a room for the prophet Elisha in the Old Testament story told in 2 Kings 4:8-37.
The Shunammite woman was a wealthy, married woman in the village of Shunem.
She recognized Elisha as a holy man of God and asked her husband for permission to “build a guest room for him.
The room had a bed, table, chair, and lamp.
Elisha would stay in the room whenever he passed through Shunem on his travels.
The Shunammite woman is an example of Christ-like generosity.
She was not stingy with her wealth and provided comfortable furnishings for the prophet.
Like Martha and The Shunammite woman, both ladies were trying their best to do something for…
We just wanted to do something, I hear both ladies saying.
Mary, on the other hand, chooses to express her love language by giving Jesus her “quality time by spending time with Him. She could’ve used her downtime for anything, like watching reels on Facebook, doing her nails, etc. But she chooses to use her time for Jesus. Like Abel; Genesis 4:1-15; who brought his “best to God or the best that he had to offer up; best 🫴🐑offering; Mary gave Jesus what He wanted most, which was her presence or the very best use of her time.
There’s nothing wrong with Mary and Martha and how they showed their love🥰❤️🥰
It’s just that we’re witnessing two different types of love languages.
Acts of service is how Martha chooses to express her love for Jesus. And quality time is how Mary chooses to express her love for Jesus.
This is just a brief synopsis of…
